Dileeban's Lesson
Dileeban, a BBA , Bachelor of Business Administration graduate, was the only educated member in his farming family.
Despite his degree, he had been searching for a job for three years without success. Meanwhile, his brothers and younger sister worked in the village, taking on various labour and garden jobs.
They were poor, expecting him to augment their financial resources.
Every day was a struggle for Dileeban. His efforts seemed futile as every job application he sent out yielded no response.
Every day was a struggle for Dileeban. His efforts seemed futile as every job application he sent out yielded no response.
The job market was tough, especially, when even intern clerical positions demanded five years of experience and often got snagged by engineering graduates willing to settle for less.
Disheartened, Dileeban kept applying, hoping for a breakthrough. But all he got was silence until one day, an email popped up in his inbox from a large commercial company's Human Resources department.
His heart pounded as he opened it, only to find out that his application had been rejected.
Adding salt to the wound, the email noted, "Your application and profile lacks a proper format and contains grammatical errors. Learn how to write an application correctly first."
Dileeban's initial reaction was anger and frustration. "Who are they to tell me I'm not good enough?" he thought, fuming. He began drafting a bitter response:
"Who are you to say my English is bad? If you don’t want me, just mention that and close the chapter .
Just because I don’t have a job doesn’t mean I’m less worthy. Your company and you can go to hell!"
As he typed furiously, his father's words echoed in his mind: " Anger and hatred are like a burning coal you intend to throw at someone, but you end up burning yourself first. Calm down and think clearly before acting."
His father's wisdom cooled his rage. He re-read the rejection email and realized it was pointing out genuine flaws in his application. Realizing it was an opportunity to improve rather than lash out, he crafted a new response:
"Dear Sir, thank you for your letter and for pointing out the errors in my application. I have revised my application accordingly. I am grateful for your guidance. Thank you once again."
He sent the email with a sense of calm and clarity, feeling a small sense of achievement.
A Twist of Fate
Two days later, Dileeban received an unexpected phone call from the company. "
"Dileeban, Congratulation ! we would like to appoint you as a Sales Officer Trainee in our company. You have your final interview tomorrow. Please come with your certificates to our HR office. Check your email for further details."
Surprised, Dileeban thought, "How did they accept my application?" He read further .
The answer came swiftly in the email: "Our company requires humility and the ability to understand others actions for the sales position. Patience and endurance are necessary. We found these qualities in your email. You’ve successfully passed the qualifying round, and we look forward to meeting you in person tomorrow."
Dileeban realized, " A touch of temperance... abundant benefits!" He mentally thanked his father, who, despite being uneducated, had immense wisdom.
Mahatma Gandhi's Insight
"Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.."
This also reminds the profound wisdom of Vedatri Maharishi, a tamil saint, emphasizing the impact of our thoughts and actions on our lives.
